Personal knowledge on the other hand gives nurses a sense of ownership in their work (Blomfield Hardy, 2000). It makes them realize that they responsible for whatever is happening around them therefore they need to provide quality service to their patients. Moreover, personal knowledge is necessary in ensuring that nurses are fully committed to their work (garyrolfe, 2002). With this understanding it would be easier for nurses to work extra hard based on their knowledge of their duties to work effortlessly to ensure that patients are well taken care of by them. Personal knowledge would also give me more reason to continue giving care to patients. This is crucial as it gives the drive to work as a nurse (Nicole Brown, 2015). It would therefore be possible for a nurse to provide greater care for their patients. Ethics as a part in Rolfs model really helped in understanding the significance of ethics to the values and beliefs of nurses (Davidson, et.al, 2017). On top of that, college sports teams do not have to pay entertainment tax, which means that everything they make goes to the school (Brawn). The spectators that come to games, watch on television, and even the sponsors are interested in watching the athletes on the college level compete, which means that the universities are indeed profiting from the athletes. In a documentary conducted by ESPN entitled â€Å"Fab Five,† one of the college basketball players for the University of Michigan said, that It was hard to see his jersey in the stands and knowing that just his number was on it, not his name. He later goes on to say that he wasn’t receiving any money from it even though Addidas was promoting his jersey! This Michigan Basketball player then goes on to say that he couldn’t even afford the jersey that his fans were wearing. He wanted to buy a jersey for his mom, but couldn’t afford it. Another argument that supports paying college athletes, is that these â€Å"full-ride† scholarships given to the best athletes do not actually cover all their expenses. Many athletes still can’t afford to have their parents come to the stadium and watch the games. For example, in 2010, â€Å"Duke basketball players were valued at $1,025,656 while [the players were] living just $732 above the poverty line and a scholarship shortfall of $1,995† (â€Å"The Price of Poverty in Big Time College Sports†). With all of the respect and publicity of these athletes, it goes unnoticed that a great deal of the players live very near to the poverty line. Due to this lack of money, black-markets are created. Here, boosters that represent the University give these players’ cars, spending money, or anything they truly want, and in return, these players go to their respective University. There have been many instances of this injustice before, but one prominent example is that of Reggie Bush, the running back for the University of Southern California from 2003-2005. Bush was paid by boosters to attend USC, which violated NCAA rules. Bush was heavily criticized when the violations were revealed and had to return his Heisman trophy. While Bush’ actions were clearly wrong and him returning the Heisman trophy was warranted, its tough to give him much criticism. At the time, Bush didn’t come from much wealth and even with a â€Å"full-ride† football scholarship, he could not cover all of his expenses. Bush’s mother was having trouble paying rent, so a booster at USC offered to pay for his mother’s apartment in Pasadena. Bush felt obligated to take this offer, as there was no other way to make money and pay for his mother’s apartment. If Bush were paid for his participation in the NCAA, then Bush would have attended any University he would so please. These boosters’ actions are not only illegal, but create an imbalance in competition amongst the NCAA. These universities that violate NCAA rules have an upper edge in recruiting top prospects. Schools are then tempted to violate such rules to even out the playing field. The last and arguably the most important reason to pay college athletes, is that it will ensure that most college athletes will complete their college degrees. â€Å"Paying student-athletes would provide athletes an incentive to stay in school and complete their degree programs, instead of leaving early for the professional leagues†. If athletes are paid to play, not only can they cover some of their college expenses that scholarships couldn’t cover, but also now they will want to finish their education. NCAA prides itself on all student-athletes are students first and athletes second, however, it seems that more popular athletes leave early for the pros. In college basketball, many freshman stars are referred to as â€Å"one and done† players as they complete one year of college and go to the professional leagues early, as they want money and need it as soon as possible. The importance of their education is lost. The University seems to be hypocritical in its actions when it doesn’t pay its athletes, because it seems they support college athletes leaving for the Professional league early. According to the article, â€Å"A university’s primary objective is to provide its students with a quality education that prepares them to function in the world as opposed to in college. † However, without paying athletes, universities leave their students with no other option but to not graduate and withdrawal after a semester or a year to meet their financial obligations. Logistically, it should be very simple for the universities to compensate their student-athletes. One author suggests that every university pays the same flat rate to each college athlete for three years, then offer a raise to senior athletes. This bonus will create that incentive for students to receive their degrees. While it may seem odd and unjust to pay college athletes, the reality is that compensation of such athletes is a necessity not only to keep competition at a steady level in college athletics, but also to encourage students to graduate and get their college degrees.

Cultural understanding and sensitivity will become much more important for the HR professional of the future, whereas multiple language ability isn’t going o become a necessary competency. The continued emergence of a world marketplace will require development of an international workforce. Small teams of HR professionals will focus on providing performance improvement consulting services to a variety of locations around the world. Work and Society Family and life interests will play a more prevalent role in people’s lives and a greater factor in people’s choices about work—there will be more of a â€Å"work to live† than a â€Å"live to work† mentality. Employees will demand increases in workplace flexibility to pursue life interests. Dual-career couples will refuse to make the sacrifices equired today in their family lives and more people (n ot just women) will opt out of traditional careers. Families will return to the center of society; work will serve as a source of cultural connections and peripheral friendships. Workers will continue to struggle with their need for work/ life balance, and it will get worse. Integration of work with quality-of-life initiatives will create solutions to problems formerly seen as the responsibility of government. Community involvement and social responsibility will become part of an organization’s business vision. â€Å"Cocooning† will become more popular as workers look o their homes for refuge from the pressures of a more competitive workplace and depersonalized society. Just as defined-contribution plans have begun to take over from Social Security, companies will take on responsibility for elder care, long-term care and other social needs through cafeteria-style benefits programs. Those people who refuse or are unable to adapt to new technologies will find theyâ€℠¢re working harder and accomplishing less. Workforce Development Lifelong learning will be a requirement. The focus of training/learning activities will be on performance improvement and not just on skill uilding. Employees with varied skills and competencies will be valued more highly than those with a depth of expertise in a single area. Problem solving and decision making will become a required curriculum with practical work problems as the training medium. Training will be delivered â€Å"just in time,† wherever people need it, using a variety of technologies. Companies will demand constant personal growth, and employees will respond positively to higher expectations. It will not be possible to survive in the workplace without basic computer skills. People who can learn new skills/competencies quickly ill be highly valued in a faster changing world. Team projects and special assignments will be a major factor in personal development. As the computer-savvy generation is mo re assimilated into the workforce, employees will become much more productive in complex tasks and less dependent on other people and departments. Definition of Jobs Organizations won’t pay for the value of the job but for the value of the person. Versatility will be the key factor in determining employee value with strategic thinking, leadership, problem solving, technology and people skills close behind. Compensation systems will be linked to business utcomes. All jobs will require higher levels of computer skills. Employees will be more independent, moving from project to project within their organizations. Many jobs will be redesigned to be much broader in scope, especially in management positions, resulting in leaner head counts. Work will be more challenging, and jobs will become increasingly complex. Strategic Role of HR Successful HR departments will focus on organizational performance. The focus of the HR function will be human capital development and organizational productivity; HR may be renamed to reflect this. Managers will grow to depend more and more on HR professionals as they realize that good people management can be the strategic advantage in the next decade. In Elizabethan times, and as seen in the play Othello, the role of a woman was to remain submissive to her husband and raise his children. Women played a secondary role in the time when Othello is set. At the beginning of Act 2, Scene 3 of Othello we see that Othello describes Desdemona as his possession when he says, Come, My dear love, The purchase made, the fruits are to ensue. Othellors relation with Desdemona is much like what we see in abusive relationships even today. In these stories, women were powerful, too. Sita was the daughter of mother earth. The only difference is that Sita had power and Ram had power with authority. Sita was captured for nearly 12 months by Ravana, a man who wished to overpower all the gods, and he was the enemy of Ram. But as soon as Sita was rescued, she was accused of having intimate relations with Ravana, and she was asked to go through Agnipariksha (trial by fire) by her own husband, Ram. Just because he was her husband, does it give him the right to question her fidelity? Would Othello or Ram be questioned and asked to prove their loyalty the same way that Sita and Desdemona were? And all my life I have respected Ram. I didnt realize that gender injustice is a strong universal behavior until I read Sophocles Antigone. Antigone has a lot in common with Sita. Although Antigone was the daughter of a king, she was still inferior to men. If a kingrs daughter could be sentenced to death, I wonder how common women were treated. My mother is a strong woman, and so is my grandmother, my great-grandmother, and every woman, because they have faced life in a way that no other can, and just like Antigone, Desdemona and Sita, they are fearless. Unequal treatment towards women is seen throughout history: in ancient Athenian, Elizabethan times, in Indian mythology, and seen in plays such as, Antigone, Othello and in the epic, The Ramayana. Be it a kingrs daughter, or mother earthrs daughter, the role of a woman is still looked down upon. We still think of a powerful man as a born leader and a powerful woman as an anomaly. Mythology plays a big role in our society. A part of human nature makes an effort to explain things which cannot be easily understood. And so, we fill the gaps with the knowledge that does not have any sort of justification or proof. But in the process we dont realize that to raise a characterrs purpose in the story, we are putting someone down. And these stories arent just ordinary stories; people put their faith and belief in mythology. In most of the myths, women play that role of being looked down upon. Antigone, a role model, has lived over two thousand years because her character depicts fearlessness, power. When I read Antigone, I felt ashamed of myself; I felt that I have been fighting the wrong side. A part of me had accepted that giving respect to male figures in my life is important, so much so that I had started to find peace in it. I have been brought up in a strong male-dominated culture and I have heard many stories from my mother, coming from someonewho truly loves and believes in god. ?I am a Shiva Bhakt(Devotee), it gives me joy in saying this out loud; it makes me feel more close to my culture. I have proudly told people that Shiva is my god, he has a third eye that when opens, the world will be destroyed. He is a little short-tempered but that is justified because he is powerful, right? I feel ashamed. If the stories were true then I have justified that Shiva was responsible for chopping an innocent boy, Ganeshars head only because he did not let Shiva enter his own house. Ganesha is Shivars and Parvatirs son. Parvati instructed Ganesha to guard the gates while she was bathing. When Parvati created Ganesha, Shiva at that time of the incident was unaware of Ganeshars existence and that he was his son. Is that reason enough to justify chopping the head of a child? The gods were disappointed so they decided to cut off the head of an elephant and place it on Ganeshars headless body. Gandhi says, The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Ganesha, known as the elephant god. Lord Shiva is a lover and a destroyer, just like Othello. We believe that all religions are different at their core but that is not true. When Antigone wanted to bury her brother, Polynices, their sister, Ismene was reluctant because she was scared of authority, of men. This is seen in Antigone in line 600 when Creon says, No womanrs going to govern me†no, no†not while Im still alive. In my society, women still fear men. Shivars first wife, Sati jumped into the fire because her husband was insulted by her father, so much for someone in power. Women in rural areas of India still perform the act of Sati when their husbands die. She innovates herself to show her loyalty. Again, a man would never be asked to do this. Antigone hung herself to death, Desdemona sacrificed her life and women burnt themselves, they are fearless. In Othello Act 2, Scene 1, Iago says to Emilia, Come on, come on. You are pictures out of door, bells in your parlours; wildcats in your kitchens, saints in your injuries; devils being offended, players in your housewifery, and hussies in your beds. Many women in India will find the characterization of Iago as normal. My grandmother was unhappy the day I was born because she wanted a grandson. She still talks about it without any guilt and says, men look after the business. Female infanticide is still prevalent in rural parts of India. It all starts with the society wanting to kill the little girls; if they are not successful in doing so then they sell them off to older men for money. That girl gives birth to multiple kids until she gives birth to a boy. Shers abused, physically and mentally and there is no law that can protect her because according to my government and my Prime Minister, marital rape is not considered an offense. It is not a crime to rape your wife in India. Both Antigone and people of India have faced a conflict between the laws of the gods and that of the government. Shakespeare said, The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings. And I disagree because the fault is in our stars, not in ourselves, that we are underlings.
